Farm and surroundings

Facillities

This very special farm is situated on a peninsula in the Barragem da Idanha, a fresh water reservoir with sandy beaches. Sheep and horses graze on the 50 ha property, which is planted with olive, oak and fruit trees and an organic vegetable garden. The farm is set in an open, green landscape.

Surroundings and activities

The friendly farmers rent out a self-catering apartment with an open fireplace and completely furnished trailer home with a view of the lake (both max. 5 people). In the hot season, guests may sleep on platforms built in the trees. The lake shore offers plenty of space for campers to pitch their tents. Solar panels generate the electricity. Experienced riders can join organized excursions lasting several days. On these trips, participants sleep in tents. Short introductory courses on horse husbandry and riding lessons are also available (information at the farm or ECEAT Portugal). Boats and bicycles are for hire. Otters, black storks and vultures live near the dam. Beautiful wild flowers grow on the banks of the river Ponsul. Upstream you will find Idanha-a-Velha, a village that dates back to Roman times. Monsanto, known as 'the most Portuguese village in all of Portugal' is also worth seeing.
