Stara Szkoła w Ubliku

Location and atmosphere

A traditional ecological family farm certified by Bio Ekspert, set up in historical buildings of a former village school. On 5 hectares they grow corn, potatoes, vegetables, fruits and keep animals like chickens, goats and a horse, used for riding and pulling, a dog and cats. Most of the work is done by hand and with horse pulled machines. Hence a helping hand from guests is more than welcome. Own milk, eggs, bread and cheeses from the farm are offered on site. Farm buildings are registered as historical monuments for their traditional architecture and beauty and are protected by law.

Facillities

Four rooms for guests are in the spacious loft of the school building. Every room is heated and has got its own toilet with shower. Next to the rooms there is a common area with a kitchenette where simple meals can be prepared. On the ground floor, in the former spacious class room, there are a fire place, sofas, grand piano and a 12 seat table. For children you only pay half price.

Surroundings and activities

The farm is based in Masuria in the village named Ublik first mentioned as early as in 1450. There are about 15 farms in Ublik over the distance of 4 km. Farmland is located between three lakes and a forest. In the village there are also a small hotel converted from a manor house and a holiday resort of the Warsaw University of Technology (water sport rental). In the village there are a few unattended bathing areas and several piers, a subway connecting two lakes, a shop and “Manufaktura Górecka” handicraft gallery. 10 km south there is Poland’s largest lake named Śniardwy which is one of the best places for windsurfers. 10 km east there is a ski lift (open in winter) and a small safari (open in summer). 5 km west there are Nietlice Bogs nature reserve, perfect for bird watching with thousands of cranes in autumn. In the neighbouring forests there are remnants of World War I and II military facilities. You can kayak to Giżycko from Ublik (20 km). Two marked cycle routes run through Ublik. The neighbouring forests are full of wild mushrooms, forest fruit and long forest paths, perfect for walking and cycling.
