The old Saxon farm the Kruidenhoeve is located in the outskirts of Balkbrug, adjoining the lovely Reestdal (valley). Next to the farm is a beautiful flower and medicinal herb garden, completely organically kept. The gardens can be visited in the summer and the owner can show you around after appointment. There is a tearoom and various terraces to enjoy the garden. In the yard chickens, guinea fowls and a donkey walk around. The Kruidenhoeve is proud of its stork’s nest next to the garden, where storks nestle. The farm is heated by solar energy and the walls are finished with a layer of loam.

The two-persons apartment is in the front part of the farmhouse. You have your own front door. The apartment has a living room, a bedroom with double bed and a kitchen. You are requested not to prepare meat or fish in the kitchen, because this farm wants to stimulate vegetarian cooking. Seasonal products are available, like eggs and home grown organic vegetables.

The farm is a good starting point for many beautiful walking and cycling trips in the provinces of Drenthe and Overijssel. The Reestdalroute passes the farm. You can visit the nature information centre De Wheem and ill De Start in Balkbrug (6 km), the old fortifications of Ommerschans (5 km) and the regional museum the Kalkovens (limekiln) in Dedemsvaart (4 km). There is also recreation lake the Kotermeerstal (6 km) and children find fun in the Ponypark in Slagharen (13 km).
