Villa Solhaga

Location and atmosphere

Villa Solhaga offers a welcoming setting for various courses on the Island of Pettu in the southwest part of Turku Archipelago. In Solhaga, ecologically sound solutions are looked for, regarding such issues as water and energy use and choice of building materials. In the small ecological garden grow speciality root crops, such as Jerusalem artichokes, sea kale and herbs. In the summertime, sheep do their share of parkland maintenance. The Centre is surrounded by the small-scale Pettu Arboretum with old trees and shrubs, and one of the neighbouring farms is organic.

Facillities

Full board is available in an old Art Nouveau style stone villa, in which most of the cosy rooms feature a tiled stove. A traditional sauna, a meeting room and sports/yoga facilities in a separate building are in shared use, as well as a tree-house for the children. In addition to full board there are also camping facilities in the summer, including a big tent with a stove. All visitors are expected to have full-board, also people bringing their own tent. In Solhaga good food is a priority. Their specialities include sour bread baked in an old-fashioned oven, pies, oven-cooked porridges, soya dishes, their own herbal teas, their own vegetables preserved by lactic fermentation, fish dishes and produce collected in the wild. Organic products from the neighbouring farm are also used.

Surroundings and activities

The facilities in Solhaga are also rented out to course leaders. The guests can take part in such work as caring for trees or helping out in the garden. A rowing boat and a canoe are for hire. You can also cycle around Pettu and other small islands.
