De Bekhofschans

Location and atmosphere

The property is called after The Bekhofschans, a sconce, raised in the 17th century in the struggle against the Spaniards. The remnants are still visible, the canon is in Oldeberkoop. The accommodation encloses a forty years old campsite and two holiday homes, both lovely fitting in with the atmosphere of the surroundings. De Bekhofschans has a peaceful atmosphere because of the varied planting, especially the more than hundred-year-old trees on the campsite. The site is member of the Stichting Natuurkampeerterreinen (organisation of nature campsites). The grounds are managed sustainable and solar collectors provide for heating.

Facillities

The campsite has 25 spacious pitches with lots of privacy and room to play and is very suitable for guests with little children. The pitches are all hundred square metres. An outdoor fireplace and a bad weather accommodation in the barn are available. In the former farm there are two holiday homes, each with its own character and a large garden with lots of privacy. The Bekhofschans sometimes organises excursions in the surroundings as well as courses and narrative nights.

Surroundings and activities

The wooded banks and the rivers Linde and Tjongers mark the characteristic landscape of the region Stellingwerven. The National Parks Drents-Friese Wold, De Weerribben and Fochtloërveen are situated at a short distance of the accommodation. These parks (and other nature areas like Dwingelose Heide) make this an outstanding area for walks, bicycle trips and canoeing. The Bekhofschans has information available about outings for young and old. Every summer an art event is organised in the village Oldeberkoop and within a stone’s throw you find the so-called eco cathedral of the famous Dutch landscape architect Le Roy.
